Welcome to the NYU School of Professional Studies American Language Institute (ALI), a world-renowned center for English-language learning located in the heart of New York City. Strolling through Washington Square Park en route to the NYU library, taking the subway to classes at the historic Woolworth building, or having lunch with business associates during breaks from classes at the Midtown Center, our students are stimulated by the variety of faces, accents, and cultures they encounter. All are sure to widen their vision of the world through this immersive experience as well as through the opportunity to hear English as it is used in daily life.
Our mission is straightforward—we are dedicated to equipping and empowering our students with the language skills they need to function successfully in their chosen field, whether they are currently in an academic or a professional environment. ALI classes are dynamic and interactive, allowing students to gain extensive practice in the skills they are learning. Our instructors, who are well known and respected in their fields, lecture worldwide on best teaching practices. They are masters at creating a community of learners in their multicultural classrooms. Students from over 70 countries have attended ALI over the past 60 years. We have taught CEOs and au pairs, artists and business professionals, young students who are just out of high school, and adults who are pursuing a career change.
I feel fortunate to be part of this exciting center as I work closely with faculty and staff members to provide students with the academic tools, the guidance, and the skills they need. Whatever the goals and objectives of the individuals who enroll in the ALI programs, they leave with a greater understanding of the English language and American culture, and with increased confidence in their ability to use communication skills to achieve personal, professional, and academic success.
I invite you to join the thousands of students who have already taken advantage of all that the ALI has to offer as we study hard, have fun, and learn together.
